Il s'agit là d'une partie de l'entrée d'air du moteur J79 ou du moteur F100 qui sont utilisés pour l'avion de combat américain F-16/79 et F-16A.

Les besoins en air et en rétablissement de pression du J79 sont plus faibles que ceux du F100; c'est pourquoi l'on a adopté une nouvelle entrée d'air qui ressemble superficiellement à la première, mais comporte notamment une rampe de compression fixe.
